The Minnesota Pheasant Opener kicked off Saturday morning in Kandiyohi County.

Gov. Tim Walz was at the 9 a.m. start to go hunting. The season runs every day from 9 a.m. until sunset through Jan. 2. Hunters ages 16 to 64 need a small game license and pheasant stamp as well as at least one visible item of clothing worn above the waist in blaze pink or orange, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

“It was the perfect morning to kick off the 2021 pheasant hunting season!” Governor Walz said. "Wishing all Minnesotans taking part in this time-honored tradition a safe season and successful hunt.”

The event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the season still took place.
